HARTFORD, CT — The Connecticut General Assembly passed a revised state budget, bringing critical investments into public education in Connecticut. The more than $28 billion dollar spending plan features more than $190 million in new funding to our state’s public schools, including $8.7 million to Connecticut’s public charter schools.
This increase in per-pupil funding in the revised budget for fiscal year 2027 means roughly $700 more per charter school student, bringing critical support to these innovative schools. However, this funding is a one-time increase that does not currently affect the foundation.
In addition, the revised budget includes $75,000 planning grants to three new public charter schools that earned approval from the State Board of Education in 2025 — OLAM Public Charter School in Stamford, PROUD Academy in Ansonia, and Taino CoLab Waterbury.
We congratulate the devoted leaders at these three new charter schools and thank the General Assembly and Governor Lamont for listening to the school leaders, educators, parents, and advocates who expressed a need for continued investment in these unique public school options.
