HARTFORD, CT — Advocates for Connecticut’s public charter schools addressed legislators at the State Capitol in Hartford at two recent public hearings to begin the 2026 legislative session.
CTCSA leaders joined advocates and school leaders from across the state in delivering testimony at the Appropriations Committee Public Hearing on February 17, 2026. This included a calls for an increase in weighted funding for Connecticut’s public charter schools and for any future base-funding increases to apply equally to all public school students.
In addition to support of fair funding for public charter school students, advocates urged legislators to fund the approved-but-unfunded public charter schools that are waiting for appropriation from the General Assembly before they can open their doors to students.
Advocates returned to Hartford on March 4, as the Education Committee considered bills related to funding public education. This included two bills being considered this session that would raise the Education Cost Sharing (ECS) foundation, one of which would also increase weighted funding for public charter schools in Connecticut.
CTCSA will continue to keep member schools updated on legislative developments and opportunities for advocacy this session.
