About Shelly

Shelly Hicks serves as Community Engagement Manager in New Haven. In this role, she works diligently to build relationships with community members to achieve policy and advocacy wins on behalf of Connecticut Public School students. Educated in the New Haven Public School System, she continued her studies at Springfield College in Springfield, MA where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services, Magna Cum Laude. She is currently pursuing an MBA online at Howard University. Shelly is an active community member, having served on several nonprofit boards, and holding membership in the Greater New Haven NAACP and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Shelly is committed to the mission of the CT Charter Schools Association as it is parallel with her own values, interests, and priorities. Before joining the CT Charter Schools Association’s team, Shelly worked at Highville Charter School in New Haven for over 15 years, most recently serving as Director of Communications and Community Relations.
